This is not a glitch. The reason your message did not appear in the activity feed is that you commented on an older update, and the system keeps that conversation attached to the original post date.
In our Activity Feed, comments are grouped under the corresponding update rather than appearing as a brand-new post at the top of the feed. So your contribution is there, just tucked inside that specific post.
When you want a message to hit the top of the Sitewide Activity feed, the best way is to start a brand-new post in the group feed instead of replying to an older thread.
